re:group performance collective take over Wollongong Town Hall to present the highly-anticipated sequel to Route Dash Niner: Part 1.
In October 2016, four friends discovered a strange signal coming from the deepest corner of the universe. They held a press conference announcing their intention to investigate this signal and bid farewell to their families. Now, a year later, we find our crew on the fringe of the known universe. And the closer they get to the signal, the further they stray from home…
Route Dash Niner: Part 2 is a cinematic sci-fi epic from re:group, an emerging Sydney-based collective who make new performance works from scratch. Their projects are experimental and explore pop culture and videography through hybrid art forms.
Route Dash Niner is their first work presented in two parts, the first in October 2016 at Illawarra Performing Arts Centre and Giant Dwarf Theatre, and the second, now one year later, in September 2017 at Wollongong Town Hall.
A celebration of ambitious home video and DIY-interstellar wonder, Route Dash Niner: Part 2 brings to the stage a film shot in real-time before a live audience. With all the tricks laid bare, it’s an unorthodox, compelling, and laugh-out-loud live experience.
From the team: We wanted to make a science-fiction film live on stage, with all the on-set tricks laid bare. Performers jerking in their seats as their ship enters an asteroid belt, putting wire in our hair as we enter zero gravity, that sort of thing. And any truly important interstellar mission needs a launch, to explain the journey’s motivations, and commemorate the lives of those brave enough to go out there.
Please note: This show includes a re-cap of Route Dash Niner Part 1. Audience members do not have to have attended Route Dash Niner Part 1 to enjoy the show.
